Planned Workshop Sessions

to be presented in the spring and summer of 2008 - details to follow at a later date

Those trees are growing upside down!  The Therapeutic Value of Humor in Caregiving

This workshop will give evidence of the therapeutic value of humor in the caregiving process.  There is an abundance of the positive effects of the use of humor.  We will investigate the different types of humor and learn to differentiate between helpful and harmful humor.

That could be your mother in that bed.  How to not dehumanize the elderly patient

This workshop will explore ways in which elderly patients are sometimes treated with disregard by even the well-intentioned caregiver.  Overwork, stress and sometimes, youth, can cause us to dehumanize these patients.  The purpose of this workshop is to discuss ways to ease those final days for both the patient and the families.

 Support Group Ministry for Caregivers

Many caregivers are in this business because a parent or other loved one requires their care.  Therefore, many come into the job totally unprepared.  This workshop will discuss ways to set up and facilitate support groups for caregivers and to provide a vehicle for the exchange of ideas, emotions and solutions to problems.  We will also discuss how this ministry will become an outreach ministry to your church’s community.

 God’s Gifts To You

This workshop will provide Biblical evidence that God has granted each of us certain gifts, talents, and/or strengths.  These gifts are intended to be used to glorify Him.  They also make us uniquely qualified to fill specific niches in our environment.  We will explore how these gifts can be used effectively in our caregiving, spiritual and everyday lives.

How to become your parent’s parent.  Exploring role reversal in caregiving

One of the most difficult things in caring for aging parents is the inevitable role reversal that takes place.  We will explore examples of this reversal, such as bill paying and household duties, and possible ways to resolve the stresses that are involved.
